Let’s talk a little about Perfume….

Did you know they’re referring to fragrances as the “new second hand smoke”???

I use to work as a Fragrance Consultant years ago and I know this is one of the top gifts to give to women during the holiday season. In fact most fragrances are sold in gift sets this time of year.

Here are some scary fragrance facts:

1. The FDA does not require companies to list ingredients used in fragrances. Fragrances can be SEVERAL HUNDRED CHEMICALS. ? Due to the loophole in the “US Fair Packaging and Label Act of 1966” fragrance ingredients do not need to be disclosed because they are considered “trade secrets”.

2. They’re found in everything- lotion, shampoo, conditioner, skincare, candles, laundry detergents, soaps, sanitary pads, baby products, clothing, etc. But perfumes and body sprays— the most concentrated and toxic concoctions.

3. These chemicals cause headaches, sinus swelling, itchiness, runny noses, skin irritations, and more. And these side effects are felt not just by the person wearing/using them, but by all the people around them including babies and children. (Hence the new second hand smoke label.)

4. Beyond the side effects we feel immediately, these chemicals can also cause respiratory failure, kidney damage, GI tract irritation, weight gain, and they are known endocrine disruptors and carcinogens.

5. Endocrine disruptors affect our hormones, and can mimic hormones in our bodies causing ALL kinds of DISTRESS…

6. Worst of all, most of these chemicals have NEVER been tested for safety. But they’re protected if a company says its a “trade secret” ?

It’s so simple, and WAY more affordable to swap them for an easy, health benefiting, elixir made with nature’s own- essential oils! (Now remember, these are also not created equal and most companies will label their fragrances as “essential oils” and they’re just as harmful. Do your research, or go with doTERRA, the largest, most tested, most trusted essential oils on the globe ?)

Here’s a simple DIY- totally customizable!!

Pure-fume:

-40 drops (Total) Essential Oils
-1 tbsp Witch Hazel
-1/2 cup water
Add ingredients to a 2oz spray bottle

My Pure-fume:

-10 drops Bergamot
-10 drops Sandalwood
-5 drops Patchouli
-5 drops Citrus Bliss
