CREATE PEACE + CALM WITH ESSENTIAL OILS

Essential Oils have an incredibly powerful effect on our physical and emotional bodies. This is what makes them ideal for creating a sense of peace + calm.

I get asked about calming oils ALL THE TIME. What to use for a more restful and deeper sleep? What will help lessen feelings of anxiety? What will reduce feelings of stress? What will help my kids calm down during the “witching hour” or before bedtime? In this post I’m going to share my favorite calming essential oils, how to use them, and some great diffuser blends and recipes that you can try at home.

I also want to note that there are so many more oils and combinations that are useful. Experiment with your oils! Have fun with your oils! You can’t go wrong. Your body will use exactly what it needs. And most of all, have FUN trying different oils together as a family!

HOW TO USE ESSENTIAL OILS

Before you dive in be sure to check things like quality, purity, potency, efficacy, sourcing and 3rd party testing. Not all oils are created equal. I suggest sticking to CPTG (certified pure therapeutic grade) Essential Oils. You want your oils to be SAFE and give you the desired outcome.

There are 3 ways that CPTG Essential Oils can be used:

AROMATICALLY – In a diffuser or inhaled from the bottle or from a drop in the palms of your hands.

TOPICALLY – Placed on the skin, or massaged into the skin, and typically diluted with a carrier oil like coconut, jojoba, argan, or rosehip oil.

INTERNALLY – Certain CPTG oils labeled with Supplement Facts, like you would see on food containers, are safe to take internally.

OILS + BLENDS FOR PEACE + CALM

These are my absolute FAVES when it comes to all things calming…

LAVENDER: The Gateway Oil – This is the oil that most of us are familiar with and have most likely experienced. This was the first oil I was introduced to in a yoga class many years ago. It has a flowery aroma that’s familiar and soothing. It’s calming to the skin (body), and mind. Safe to use all 3 ways. I love to add a drop to hot tea before bed, and diffuse in the evening.

SERENITY RESTFUL BLEND: Calming + Renewing – This is a blend of the best sleepytime oils. It promotes relaxation and a restful night’s sleep. I begin diffusing this oil 30 minutes before bed.

CEDARWOOD: Perfect oil for unwinding after an eventful day to soothe and relax the mind and body. Combine with other relaxing oils in a diffuser, or dilute with a carrier oil and massage onto the bottoms of your feet.

FRANKINCENSE: One of the most prized and precious essential oils. It’s calming to the nervous system and induces feeling of peace, groundedness, wholeness, and wellness. This is an oil I add to most diffuser and topically blends to enhance their effects. Great for meditation. Supports cellular health and can be taken internally. One drop under the tongue or in a veggie capsule.

ROMAN CHAMOMILE: Soothes anger and irritability. Use topically over the heart or add a drop to your favorite herbal tea. I also love the combination of Roman Chamomile + Arborvitae in an Epsom Salt Bath before bed. (recipe below)

HAWAIIAN SANDALWOOD: Lovely oil for deep relaxation or meditation. Grounding and uplifting to the spirit. Diffuse with Frankincense during a meditation or restorative yoga practice, or apply a drop to your wrists and inhale.

BERGAMOT: “The Oil of Self Acceptance” – Creates a sense of harmony, self-assurance, and self-love. Citrusy and bright. *personal fave*

BALANCE: Promotes a whole-body sense of relaxation and tranquility. Breathe deep or diffuse to experience a grounding effect. (This is also an oil that I lovingly refer to as the “Toddler Tamer.”)

WILD ORANGE: Revitalizing + Upliting. Great to diffuse or inhale after a stressful day. I always have one on hand. I even have a bottle in the car for long rides with my 3 kids under 5…

PETITGRAIN: Calms the nervous system and promotes restful sleep. This oil is chemically very similar to Lavender and has many of the same benefits making it an excellent swap for those who don’t love Lavender’s extra flowery aroma. It also supports the cardiovascular, immune, and digestive systems.

PEACE REASSURING BLEND: This blend comes from doTERRA’s Emotional Aromatherapy collection and is an absolute MUST-HAVE. If you’re experiencing any anxious feelings, this blend promotes feelings of contentment, composure, and reassurance.

CLARY SAGE: Supports a healthy mood (especially during menstruation, menopause, or during the postpartum stage). This oil is one of the best for relaxation helping to soothe and calm the nervous system.

MAGNOLIA: This oil has the most beautiful aroma (the perfect Pure-Fume) and is primarily made up of linalool, a constituent also found in Lavender, which can help ease feelings of stress and anxiousness.

VETIVER: Deriving from the root of the plant, this oil is incredibly grounding to the emotions. This is an oil that has worked wonders in our home calming very hyperactive toddlers!

COPAIBA: Soothing to anxious feelings when taken internally. 1 drop under the tongue. For kids, add to a rollerbottle or diffuser blend. It also supports healthy nervous, immune, and cardiovascular systems.

SERENITY SOFTGELS: This complex contains Lavender, L-Theanine (an extract found in green tea), Lemon Balm, Passionflower, and Chamomile to promote relaxation and a restful sleep without the groggy side effects. All I have to say is that these have been a complete game-changer for me when it comes to restful sleep.
